Features Setting File Permissions

   
 

Quick Background information

chmod changes the access permissions or modes of the specified files or directories. Permissions determine who can read, change or execute a file.


 

2 ways to chmod :. file manager :. FTP

Note We recommend using your FTP client to CHMOD

Online File Manger

1. access file manger

Log into your control panel

Access the file manager

In your root directory var/www/html find the file you need to CHMOD

Click on the file icon to change file settings or click on the folder icon to change folder settings

This is chmod 644 (default)

Check the required check boxes and click on update permissions

If you were only provided with the preset number

i.e. chmod 755 see below


chmod using FTP

FTP > find the file > find the settings for chmod usually properties

TIP: Right clicking on the file will usually bring up a chmod settings

You will see a screen like the one below from smartFTP

type your permissions > click ok
