Basic Search Engine Optimization Tips

Before submitting your website to search engines, be sure to follow these simple rules to optimize your site.

1. Website Title

The title is one of the most important factors when it come to search engine optimization. As overusing keywords will lower your site ranking, keep your title short and to the point.

  • Be as specific as possible
  • Make sure your theme or the main content (keywords) appears in the title.
  • Don't overuse keywords
  • Keep it short between 5 - 10 words max.

2. Relevant Keywords

Most advanced or intelligent search engines like google, find keyword and match them to the users search query. Now one can have more than one keyword on the page, but make sure that keyword also appears in the title.

Smart search engines specifically google, find the keywords on top of the page, and better yet, the keywords that are bolded or further emphasized by using header tags.

i.e. <h1> KEYWORD ONE</h1>

2. Keyword Density

For example, if you website is about Search Engine Optimization (SEO) it should have the word SEO or search engine optimization, emphasized (see above), throughout the page. Now this does not mean using the word SEO a thousand times on a page like this

SEO | SEO | SEO | SEO | SEO . . . as this is referred to as spamming and could get you banned from search engines.

Instead Note: (we italicized our keyword(s) to point out density)

3. HomePage size

As the index file is the doorway to your site, a good homepage should have at least one full page of text combined with the graphics & pictures.

4. ALT Tags (optional but useful)

The Google search engine cannot read the text inside a picture. For example, the picture above "Search Engine Optimization", isn't readable by google. But by placing alt tags, google will now be able to see what's 'in' the picture.

Here is what our alt tags look like:

FAQ's

I submitted my website but why isn't it listed in google yet?

When you submit your website (domain), it's put on a waiting list until the google bot (robot), known as spiders, goes out and crawls your page. As google get's tens of thousands of domains submitted to their site daily, the google bot visits the sites listed in their database first. So getting your site listed could take weeks or even months.

I submitted my website months ago and it hasn't showed up?

Submitting to a search engine will not guarantee a listing. The google bot has to index over 3 billion web pages and at times your site just may not be relevant enough to be placed in their database. In this case the alternative is paying to get listed in search engines.

Note: We may start offering a guaranteed listing service where your site will be listed in major search engines like Yahoo, AltaVista, Overture, in 48 hours or less. Nominal fees will apply
