Features Learn to access your root directory

Either ways will work and both are very simple to use

Online File Manager

The online File Manager is located within the control panel. Find the file manager and locate the root directory (var/www/html)

It's simple!

1 . Log into your site admin control panel (CP)

Login into your control panel
2. Click on File Manager

Under Files & Directories access the Online File Manager
You will now be in the file manager

To simply the definition of root directory: when someone types in http://www.YourDomainHere.com they are really seeing this: http://www.YourDomain.com/index.html. On any server, Index is always the first file that opens up. All Index.html files are always stored in the root directory. You as the admin are the only person to have access to the root directory. Your users can only access their directories.

This is the online File manager. You will need to upload the file to the root directory var/www/html

Click on the text 'var' to enter the var directory

Clicking on the icon will let you access folder settings like setting permissions also known as (CHMOD)

From the var directory access the www directory

From the www directory access the html directory

This is the root directory

FAQ?

Q: What are all those other folders and files?

A: Without explaining all the details of every file, the other files are required library files or files that help your website perform certain actions. With any server, there are a lot of 'backend' files that perform actions such as storing eMail, analyzing web traffic, creating log files, your web based eMail software, translating different programming languages such as perl, php, and much more. The folders and files you see perform those actions. You can rest assured as most of the files are 'locked' they cannot be accidentally deleted and always count on our award winning web hosting service & support to help you out.
